Nyeri Hospice is situated in the Mount Kenya region in Central province of Kenya. It was Kenya’s first rural hospice and opened in1995 as a satellite branch of Nairobi Hospice to cater for patients with life limiting illnesses. The hospice’s day to day services are offered by a committed professional staff team of three nurses, a doctor, a social worker, and an administrative assistant. The hospice has been expanding its services since inception, and has overseen the establishment of three other hospices; Nyahururu, Murang’a and Laikipia. It serves about 85 patients each month, and runs training courses both health care professionals and non-health care professionals in palliative care. Nyeri hospice is an autonomous charitable organization in its operations. The hospice has 7 palliative care personnel. The hospice also runs HIV counseling and testing service.
