About Us

KEHPCA

Kenya Hospices and Palliative Care association (KEHPCA) exists to promote access to quality palliative care for all in need across the country. With over 15 years of dedicated advocacy for palliative care, KEHPCA is a powerful voice for persons living with palliative care needs (PLWPCN)

Millions of Kenyans with serious health related suffering (SHS), hard to cure and incurable illnesses are living and dying in agony because they lack access to pain relief medicines and psycho-social support. There is growing demand for palliative care services as the number of Kenyans with communicable and non-communicable diseases rises.

WHO defines palliative care as an approach that improves the quality of life of patients (adults and children) and their families facing problems associated with life-threatening illness, through the prevention and relief of suffering, the early identification and impeccable assessment and treatment of pain and other problems, physical, psychosocial and spiritual.

KEHPCA uses a multisectoral approach to promote access to palliative care up to the community level. This is done by engaging various partners including; palliative care providers, Ministry of health, County Governments, development partners, communities and PLWPCNs.

Palliative care is a human right and every Kenyan in need should have access to it in line with the Kenyan Constitution, patients rights charter, SDG and UHC guidelines.
