Our Lady’s Hospice Thigio has been a beacon of light for those in need, and we’re excited to share the incredible journey we’ve taken over the past decade!
Reflecting on Our Roots: In 2014, we started with a dedicated team: seven caregivers trained by KEHPCA, alongside three nurses who honed their skills at Nairobi Hospice. Despite the challenges, we provided quality care to our nine patients—thanks to NHIF support until it ceased in 2019.
Rising to New Challenges: Fast forward to 2024, and while we’ve faced obstacles, our commitment to our patients remains unshaken. The decline in cancer patients led us to expand our services to those with diabetes, hypertension, dementia, and more. With a full bed capacity of seven and another patient waiting for admission, we are proud to adapt and serve our community’s diverse needs.
Community Spirit: The love from local Catholic Churches has poured into our hospice, with donations of food, clothing, and heartfelt prayers. 🌼 A recent collaboration with Outburst brought us clean water for our Palliative Care Walk in 2023, showcasing the power of community support!
Investing in Our Future: Our team is evolving! We welcomed three new nurses and a new cook, while also training caregiver students from nearby colleges. Two students are heading to Portugal, grateful for the invaluable experience gained here. Our voluntary caregivers have also enriched our team, gaining knowledge and skills during their time with us.
Heartfelt Testimonials: Joyce Wanjiru found a true home with us for the past four months, and her gratitude speaks volumes: “Your commitment and kindness will always be rewarded by God. Thank you and God bless you abundantly.”
Dr. Esther Nafula adds, “Our Lady’s Hospice is a great place for palliative care. Our patients and families are privileged to be served here. Good job. May God bless the work of your hands.”
Join Us in Celebrating! Let’s continue to make a difference. Together, we can light the way for those on their journey to healing. 💖
