In a world where compassion and care can transform lives, Laikipia Palliative Care Centre has emerged as a beacon of hope 🌈. As we celebrate ten years since the World Health Assembly’s landmark resolution on palliative care, we invite you to journey with us through our transformation—a journey marked by resilience, innovation, and unwavering dedication to serving our community.
Strengthening Governance: A Collaborative Approach 🤝 🏛️
Over the past decade, we have fortified our leadership by including medical professionals on our board. This collaborative approach has allowed us to make informed decisions that directly enhance the quality of care we provide to our patients.
From Rented Room to Community Hub: Our New Home 🌟 🏠
What began in a small rented room in Nanyuki town has blossomed into a permanent home at the Teachers Estate. This stability has empowered us to expand our services, supported by generous grants that have equipped us to deliver high-quality palliative care.
Empowered Staff, Enhanced Care: Our Growth Story 🤗 🌱
Our dedicated team has grown from just two palliative care providers to a committed staff of six. With the addition of two vehicles, we can now reach even the most remote areas of Laikipia, bringing comfort and support to vulnerable populations.
Advancements in Education: Raising the Bar 🛫 🎓
Investing in our team’s education has been paramount. Some of our members have achieved higher qualifications in palliative care, elevating our standard of service and improving how we manage both patients and their families.
Building Community Connections: Our Outreach Efforts 👨🏾👩🏼👧🏾👦🏽
We have established day care services and support groups, not only for patients but also for their families. These initiatives significantly enhance the emotional and social well-being of those we serve.
Our outreach efforts have also included extensive training for Community Health Promoters (CHPs), youth, teachers, and clergy members. By actively participating in community meetings, schools, and churches, we raise awareness about the importance of palliative care.
“The care we received changed my family’s life. Laikipia Palliative Care Centre gave us hope and comfort during our toughest times.” – A grateful family member
A Growing Network of Support👌
The number of Friends of the Hospice has grown significantly, providing vital financial support and raising awareness about palliative care. Their involvement in fundraising and advocacy has strengthened our community connections, allowing us to expand services and improve care.
Innovative Services for All Needs💫💥
To ensure holistic care, we now offer Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services, including family planning, HPV immunization, and gender-based violence (GBV) support. Specialized day care programs for children and teenagers have also been tailored to meet their specific needs.
Fundraising and Community Engagement: Making It Happen💝 💰
Our annual golf tournament and walk have been instrumental in raising funds from the business community and the general public. Additionally, our charity corner has successfully raised additional funds and provided essential items, such as food packages, mattresses, and clothing, to our patients.
